The sun rises, the darkness recedes. Bird calls get louder and then fade as the roar of traffic takes over.
Your alarm clock goes off (or maybe your dog wakes you up), you begin your morning ablutions, you take the same route, you get to work.
It’s another day.
Every day is not the same.
The sun rises, the darkness recedes. Bird calls get louder and then fade as the roar of traffic takes over.
But that’s where the similarity ends.
Every day is a new day.
A chance to start something new, maybe something small that will grow into something big.
A chance to let go of pain, frustration, weakness, anger, fear.
A chance to change something – even just one thing – that will make a difference to you, to someone else, maybe to several others.
Every day is yours.
Every. Single. Day.
[…] that every day is a new day, and no matter what you’ve done or said before, you begin each day with a blank slate: […]
@TheJackB Definitely not a passionfruit.
@Ari Herzog Oh, I think we could find humor in “the rising of the sun or the setting of the moon…” Dang, @bdorman264 , where IS that @HowieSPM when you need him?!
@TheJackB Can you say “the lovely Shonali” about 20 more times, please? :p
@bdorman264@Shonali@Ari Herzog I used to like watching the sunset…the moon rise…then the sun rise before going to bed on weekends….then I got old. Gone are the days of partying til 5am and being in an office at 8am…a few times a week. Then it was twice a week. Then once a week. Then just weekends. Then every other saturday night-sunday morning…then monthly…now never pretty sad.
Oh wait I live in the forest with no one to party with. Moving back to LA so I can be diurnal again. LOL
@Shonali You are correct there is no humor in the rising of the sun or the setting of the moon, but it remains surprising that nobody commented on such until now. As to your phraseology of diurnal (to @bdorman264’s surprise, pun intended), kudos.
@Shonali Absolutely. Life without passion is…passionless..er dull.
@Ari Herzog@mdbarber@bdorman264 I was most certainly notified about this. Consequently the lovely Shonali receives another visit from me and that is pretty darn cool.
Ok, that might be considered obnoxious self promotion but someone has to do it for me. ;)
@Shonali@Ari Herzog Diurnal? Where is @HowieSPM when I need him?
@Ari Herzog@mdbarber I did not get notified on any of these. I just happened to show back up. As far as I can tell, I think my Livefyre handle is showing……….
@bdorman264 Well, @HowieSPM probably also drinks much more coffee than you do!
@Ari Herzog Re: your question about Livefyre notifications, I think if you included everyone’s Livefyre handle, then they get notified, even if they’ve unfollowed the conversation. If you’re selecting someone’s Twitter or Facebook handle, then they’ll only get notified in that particular stream if you choose to send them that notification (via the popup box that shows up after you post your comment). @mdbarber @bdorman264
@Ari Herzog Well, of course there is (re: yin/yang, etc.). I happen to be a diurnal person, so for me it’s the morning. Maybe you’re one of those that prefers to seize the night, and that’s you. I wouldn’t call it surprising or funny, though, simply how people differ from each other in their inclinations and preferences.
@TheJackB Whatever gets your juices flowing. :)
@mdbarber If you don’t follow the conversation, you’d still be notified (as I believe @bdorman264 is), right?
@mdbarber I think you lose points if you are dragging me around………
I think it is supposed to but I had no alerts………….however, I’ve shut off all replies because it was clogging my e-mail. Now I just ‘star’ it and come back to see the responses.
I expected this kind of response from you………….:). Trust me, I can carry it into the night, but the day has to start sometime, so might as well get the early jump.
Funny thing Ari — I think everyone gets the notice for these once we start “listening” to the conversation by posting. However, we may have all gotten LiveFyre points because you mentioned us.
Surprising that @TheJackB @bdorman264 @HowieSPM @JGarant @KenMueller @NancyD68 @mdbarber @rachaelseda and @Shonali focus on seizing the day — and not the night.
With every yin there is a yang and with every ray of sunshine there is moonshine.
On a side note, by referencing everyone in this comment, does everyone now get notified? This how Livefyre is supposed to work? Does jennalanger have a case study on the most number of people referenced in a comment?
I own today, er yesterday- which I guess means that I have to work on owning today. Damn, it is like digging a hole in the sand- but, I don’t mind the exercise.
Every day is a new opportunity, right? Don’t worry about what could have been, but be excited about what can be.
I was going to quote Confucius too, but @HowieSPM beat me to it. Of course, Howie is smart like that….
@Shonali@HowieSPM Footloose and he has those leggings on…..
@Shonali So true. There just seem to be so many things going on this Monday that we need to take a moment and realize we have control…each and every day. We do have the power to change how the day ends. On that note…time to fix dinner.
@mdbarber And not just Wall Street, eh?! I’m going to have to take my own advice now. I’m feeling a little frantic myself…
@rachaelseda LOL. That it was “every day” or a new day?

@HowieSPM Now I want to know what you sing while doing those 18 Jumping Jacks…

I find this rather southing after the roller coast of a day on Wall Street. Kind of a peaceful interlude on a frantic afternoon. But you’re right we do have the power to make the day however we want it to be, within reason. Thanks for the calming influence…
How funny that this is exactly how I felt this Monday morning (as soon as my coffee sunk in and I woke up that is!)
I always loved that saying from Confucius: Today is the first day of the rest of your life.
Then I go get me some coffee. Log in check email. Stretch. Eat a Banana. Play Kenny Loggins Footloose at max volume. Do 18 Jumping Jacks while singing a long. Then depending on what is in my inbox either drink more coffee or go straight for the tequila. This way it is not the same day every day. I like to mix it up some.

@JGarant Yes! Btw, the reason I wrote this today was that when I woke up at 5 am (part of my new exercise/wellness routine), the bed felt so comfy and I really didn’t want to get up. But then I did, and I went out onto my deck to drink my first cup of tea. And I thought to myself – I *could* make this like any other day, but on the other hand, I could make it completely different. So that’s where it came from.

@KenMueller True! It’s got to be at least a little different, right? Otherwise it’s so boring.

great stuff. And if every day ISN”T different, then we’re doing something wrong.
So true @Shonali – thanks for reminding me that each and every day opens up a new world of opportunities and possibilities :)
