one thing

Thank you to all our veterans, every day, but especially today. You are remarkable.

The 2016 presidential election is over.

Some of us are ecstatic, some of us are distraught. And there are a whole lot of other emotions at play, and which may take days, or weeks, or months, to process.

You are entitled to take as much time as you need to process the world you woke up to on Wednesday.

A simple exercise

As you do, I want you to pull out a sheet of paper, and draw a line down the middle. The header for the left column is “Things I Can Change.” And on the right? You guessed it – things you can’t.

Fill it out.

Exercise = work

The best exercises are, I think, simple. And they are also tools to help you perform more efficiently and effectively.

The thing is, the best exercise in the WORLD is not going to make a darn difference if you don’t actually do it.

Change the things you can

I’m not here to lecture you on politics. It’s not my area of expertise, and not what I’ve built my career on.

What I am here to do is to remind you that you literally hold the power to transform your life in your hands … by focusing on the things you can change.

In your personal life and in your professional life, because they are increasingly intertwined.

Your one thing

What is the one thing you can to do today, to make your world a little better?

Can you…

… and so on …?

You don’t have to try to do a hundred things every day. I think you’d collapse from exhaustion.

But you can do *one* thing every day.

My one thing

The one thing I try to do every day is create useful content for you.

And I say that not in a cheesy way, because it really fills me with delight when someone tells me something I said, or shared, or taught, helped them.

Sometimes you see it right away – like when I send you an email – sometimes you see it in a webinar, or on a Twitter chat, or whatever.

I don’t always hit it out of the park, but that’s my one thing.

And that’s what I will continue to do.

If you’re up for sharing, I’d love to know what your one thing is. And whatever it is … remember, the power to use it or lose it lies within your own hands.
