OK, I’m not really going to Disney World. I am, however, headed to Orlando, Fla., tomorrow, for PRSA’s 2011 International Conference.
I love this conference. It’s my fourth in a row, and thanks to the magic of social media, every time I’ve been back, I get to meet friends from all over the country – nay, world – whom I’d probably never get to see otherwise. Not to mention it seems to be the only time Michael Pranikoff and I meet every year, which is somewhat ridiculous, given that we are both DC Metro area residents.
Oh well. Can’t have it all.
I’m presenting on Monday at 3:30 pm ET (would love to see you there if you’re headed thataway) on practical measurement. Now, if you’ve seen/heard me talk about measurement before, you can skip my session.
Though I wouldn’t advise it, because I’m told Gini Dietrich will be there and may or may not have a sock monkey with her. Is that a sight you’d want to miss? I thought not.
When I speak, or write, on measurement, there are six points I typically touch on:
1. We should start at the end, and not the beginning, i.e. by identifying measurable objectives that tie into our organizations’ (or clients’) business objectives.
2. We don’t need to measure everything under the sun, just what makes the most sense.
3. Measurement is not tough. It does require elbow grease, though.
4. Measurement doesn’t have to be expensive.
5. Strategy and measurement go hand-in-hand.
6. Measurement is fun!
I’ll be using a few case studies to make my points, and if you’re planning to attend, I really hope I’m able to help you in some way. By the way, an easy way to save my session info is to download the nifty conference app that Meltwater created for PRSA 2011, and just save it to your calendar. Yes, that’s an ingratiating smile you sense.
In other words, it’s the way I’d answer the question, “What would Mickey measure?” Assuming you cared about the analytical proclivities of a rodent, that is.
If there are specific questions you’re hoping to get answered, do leave a comment for me below?
I’m also really looking forward to meeting up with Bill Dorman and Adam Toporek for the first time at a tweetup that Gini & co. are hosting (Monday evening), seeing Diane Court, Mary Barber, Richard Bagnall, Katie “Goddess” Paine, Bonnie Upright, Bryan Campbell, Tressa Robbins, Johna Burke… oh, SO many people, I can’t name them all!
So if you’re heading there, do let me know so that we can do our best to catch up. There’s nothing like seeing each other IRL, is there? And if you’re not, I’ll see you online soon, and you’ll be treated to some great guest posts while I’m out next week.
Have a great weekend!
Missed you and a surprising amount of other folk while you were gone. May have to go to this conference next year just to hear you speak and meet some of these wonderful people in person. :)
@Tinu It was truly a great time – you should come!
@ginidietrich is only bringing a sock monkey because she reserved a Kia rental car and they come with one in each passenger seat. As for @bdorman264 + @adamtoporek I am pretty sure they don’t exist and are just a figment of our social media imaginations. Which makes them a lot like Mickey Mouse! 8)
@HowieSPM@ginidietrich@adamtoporek We might be a lot like Mickey Mouse; but we were real. You really think I’m going to miss an opportunity for free food and drink even if I have to drive an hour to get there? Ha, I think not…………
As for the Kia, it did get pretty crowded when we decided to go bar hopping afterwards. After about the 3rd bar so many of Gini’s fans wanted to ride along we were practically hanging out the windows. It was a real mess when we pulled through the Taco Bell drive-thru and Gini’s got this whole vegetarian thing working and trying to get a bean burrito but it wasn’t on special and she kept dropping this Chicago ‘yoose guys’ thing on him………it got kind of ugly.
@bdorman264@HowieSPM@adamtoporek There was no rental car. There were no fans (minus Bill). There was no Taco Bell. But there WAS free food and drink. And silly Bill paid for his in the hotel lobby bar before the party.
@ginidietrich Did @bdorman264 and @adamtoporek tell you that I saw them “across a crowded room”? Literally. It was pretty funny. @HowieSPM
All Mickey would measure is increase in park attendance each year and increase in $ spend per visitor.
Minnie would measure how many people were satisfied and will come back because she is all about customer satisfaction. Donald would only measure how many parents come to Disney because they have no choice or their kids would revolt. Pluto would measure what is the market share for Disney vs the other entertainment offerings then he would blog, tweet, and facebook his results because that is what Pluto is all about.
@HowieSPM I want your brain.
@KDillabough for $49 you can take my webinar on how to turn your brain into mine. LOL Proceeds go to the @ginidietrich Foundation which is searching for a cure to my brain.
@HowieSPM Is that going to be the never-ending search, Howie? :p @KDillabough @ginidietrich

The candidate recalls 16 rounds near the spiritual ground. Should every sophisticated silver store the number? 16 rounds rates an outlined guest. Can the or nature conform across 16 rounds? The perspective results under the coast. How does the funded stream respond beneath 16 rounds?

I don’t know that Alfred is going to make it. My suitcase is awfully packed and I don’t want him to suffocate! Regardless, I’ll be there, as soon as I’m finished with my session in the Traackr booth. I’ll be the rude person who shows up five or 10 minutes late and takes you off your game. I can’t wait!
I don’t know that Alffred (the sock monkey) is going to make it. It’s awfully packed in my suitcase and I don’t want him to suffocate! Regardless, I will be joining you as soon as my session in the Traackr booth is finished. I’ll be the rude person who shows up five or 10 minutes late and takes you off your game. I can’t wait!
@ginidietrich Because you’re *you* I’ll forgive you. I can’t wait to see you!
@ericamallison @Soulati Thanks for sharing!
@shonali So nice to have you back in my stream!
@Soulati How nice of you, thank you!
“I’m so lonesome…I…could cry”…sing along with me now. Look at all the fun I’ll be missing! Please keep that Bill Dorman and Adam Toporek in line (yeah…good luck with that). Enjoy: I’ll be thinkin’ about you and crying in my Canadian beer. Cheers! Kaarina
@KDillaboughbdorman264 I think Bill will have to behave, sounds like he is coming with a chaperone! Maybe we can talk about hockey or something in your honor Kaarina! :)
@adamtoporek@KDillabough I’ll still be fun regardless………
@bdorman264@adamtoporek@KDillabough the stories now coming out about Bill, his wife, @ginidietrich and @Shonali ‘s escapades on Space Mountain with the bottle of Mezcal… oh my…. urban legend is being born. Orlando might not be the same ever again. I think Disney is now at least PG-13 if not R rated. In 4 weeks the Disney Gone Wild video is hitting the shelves.
@HowieSPM@bdorman264@adamtoporek@ginidietrich@Shonali I want to know where the photos and videos are:)
@KDillabough@HowieSPM@bdorman264@adamtoporek@ginidietrich You’ve already seen the photos!
@adamtoporekbdorman264 A chaperone? Who’d a thunk?
@KDillabough One of us will be wearing a Speedo poolside; we might have to flip a coin in the parking lot to see who has the honor……………doh……………
@bdorman264@adamtoporek I will need photos
@KDillabough@bdorman264 What happens in Orlando…
@KDillabough@bdorman264 …stays on YouTube forever!
@adamtoporek@bdorman264 I am smiling in anticipation:))))))
@KDillabough@adamtoporek@bdorman264 ROFL, talk about a party that sprang up without my knowing it…! You guys are hilarious!
@Shonali@adamtoporek@bdorman264 We aim to entertain:)
@Shonali@KDillabough@adamtoporek The countdown is on; I got a wax job just for the pool party………:)
@bdorman264@Shonali@KDillabough@adamtoporek@ginidietrich rumor has it that Bill spikes his 7-11 slushies with vodka that he drinks during Tweet Ups.
@HowieSPM@bdorman264@Shonali@adamtoporek@ginidietrich I am LMAO, all by my lonesome up here in cold and rainy Canada.
@KDillabough Don’t worry Kaarina. You didn’t miss anything. Not at all.
@ginidietrich Aw, you’re just tryin’ to make me feel better: and I appreciate that:)
Wish I could be there…I never seem to make it to the International conference.
Have fun, and I’ll be watching for all of the posts, tweets, and wrap up stories!
@jenzings You definitely need to get to the next one, Jen – it is SO much fun. Probably the best conference I go to every year, and I don’t say that lightly. We’ll have a drink for you, how about that?
Sounds good! @Shonali , I always seem to have plans the weekend of the International Conference, either work or personal. It typically falls on or near my birthday, and it’s just generally a busy time for me. (This year, for example, my husband and I had tickets to see Bill Cosby last night, which was a ton of fun.) That said, I’m sure I’ll make it at some point!Have an awesome time!
@shonali can’t wait for your session! #PRSAIcon
@NikkiWarner_ @KirkHazlett I’m looking forward to it! #prsaicon
@shonali Hope to see you @ PRSAICON. It’s going to be awesome!
